Do I need to learn German before going to Germany?.
As we know now the young generation in Germany speaks good English, German universities offer several courses masters onwards in English, does one need to learn German before going to Germany for a short or long stay?
My answer will be, for a short stay maybe not. If you are there for some work and you would be busy with your daily routine you would not be needing German, but for those who are going to Germany for a longer period like for Job or study, it’s recommended that they learn the German Language.
Normally students doing International Masters don’t need German Language skills for their academic course, but once you get your degree Germany allows international students to stay in the country for another 18 months and look for a job. There your German Language skill is an advantage on your Cv. Not knowing German means you are limiting your self with Job options.
Knowing German opens the door to many opportunities for such international students.
I also believe you miss a lot of the country when you don’t speak its language. To understand its culture to be part of it, one should learn the language of the country.
I learned German before I visited Germany for the first time. Because of knowing German, Germany has never been a foreign country for me it’s like another “ Heimatland”- Home country in German
